BLIK payments – how to set it up? How do you pay with BLIK?

BLIK is a mobile payment system thanks to which you can conveniently and safely make transactions using a smartphone, without the need to provide payment card details. How to set up BLIK payments and how to use them?

What are BLIK payments?

BLIK is a Polish mobile payment system that was created by the Polish Payment Standard (PSP) in cooperation with the largest banks in Poland. This system allows you to make payments using one-time codes generated in the bank's mobile application.

How do BLIK payments work?

BLIK payments are based on one-time, six-digit codes that are generated in the user's bank's mobile application. The BLIK code is valid for 2 minutes from the moment it is generated and can only be used once. To make a BLIK payment, simply enter the code in a payment terminal, ATM or on the store's website, and then confirm the transaction in the banking application.

The BLIK payment process is very simple and intuitive. After selecting the BLIK payment option, the user opens his bank's application, selects the "Mobile payments" or "BLIK" option and generates a one-time code. Then he enters this code in the appropriate place (terminal, ATM, website) and confirms the transaction in the application. Funds are immediately debited from the user's account and transferred to the payee.

Advantages of BLIK payments

BLIK payments have many advantages that make them more and more willing to be chosen by users. First of all, BLIK is convenient and fast - transactions are completed immediately, without the need to provide payment card details. It is also safe - one-time codes and the need to confirm transactions in the banking application minimize the risk of unauthorized payments.

Another advantage of BLIK is its availability. This system is accepted at many stationary sales points, online stores and ATMs throughout Poland. Users can also use the BLIK option abroad, in terminals supporting mobile payments. Using BLIK, you can make transfers to a phone number, which facilitates settlements between friends or family members. Some banks also allow BLIK withdrawals from ATMs without using a card, which is a convenient solution in emergency situations.

How to set up BLIK payments?

To use BLIK payments, you must have an account in one of the banks cooperating with the system and install the bank's mobile application on your smartphone.

Banks supporting BLIK payments

Currently, BLIK payments are available in most Polish banks, including: at Alior Bank, BNP Paribas, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO BP, Santander Bank Polska and Bank Millennium. The full list of banks supporting BLIK can be found on the system's website.

It is worth noting that some banks offer additional benefits for BLIK system users, for example cashback (refund of part of the funds spent) or special promotions. Details about these offers can be found on individual banks' websites or in their mobile applications.

Activation of BLIK payments in the banking application

The process of activating BLIK payments may vary slightly depending on the bank, but it usually comes down to a few simple steps. Log in to the bank's mobile application, find the "Mobile payments" or "BLIK" option and follow the instructions on the screen.

In some cases, additional confirmation of BLIK payment activation by entering an SMS code may be required. When activating BLIK payments, the user may be asked to set transaction limits. This is additional security that allows you to control your expenses and prevents unauthorized payments in the event of theft or loss of your phone.

How to pay with BLIK?

BLIK payments can be made in several ways - in stationary stores, online, at ATMs and between system users.

BLIK payments in stationary stores

To pay with BLIK in a stationary store, select the "BLIK payment" option on the payment terminal and enter the one-time code generated in the banking application. Then you need to confirm the transaction in the application and the payment will be processed. In some stores it is also possible to scan the QR code displayed on the payment terminal using a banking application. After scanning the code, the user confirms the transaction in the application, and the payment is made without the need to manually enter the BLIK code.

BLIK payments online

BLIK payments online are similar to those in stationary stores. When finalizing the transaction on the online store's website, select the "BLIK payment" option, enter the code from the banking application and confirm the payment. Some online stores also offer the option of saving a BLIK code, which speeds up subsequent transactions. More and more online stores integrate BLIK payments directly on their websites, which eliminates the need to redirect to an external payment service. This makes the payment process even faster and more convenient for the user.

BLIK withdrawals from ATMs

The BLIK system also enables cash withdrawals from ATMs without using a payment card. To withdraw money, select the "BLIK withdrawal" option on the ATM screen, enter the code generated in the banking application and confirm the transaction. BLIK withdrawals are available at most ATMs in Poland.

The BLIK withdrawal service is particularly useful in situations when the user does not have a payment card with him or when the card has been lost or stolen. Thanks to BLIK, you can withdraw cash quickly and safely, just by using the banking application on your smartphone.

Transfers to a BLIK phone number

BLIK also offers the option of transferring money to the phone number of another system user. To make such a transfer, select the "Transfer to phone" option in the banking application, enter the recipient's phone number and amount and confirm the transaction. The recipient will receive an SMS with information about the transfer and instructions on how to collect it.

Transfers to a BLIK phone number are a convenient solution in situations when we want to quickly settle accounts with friends, e.g. for a shared meal in a restaurant or a cinema ticket. There is no need to provide your bank account number - just the phone number of the person you want to transfer the money to.

BLIK payment security

BLIK payments are considered one of the safest ways to make transactions. The system uses a number of security mechanisms that protect user data and minimize the risk of unauthorized payments.

One-time BLIK codes

One of the most important security elements of the BLIK system are one-time codes generated in the banking application. Each code is unique and valid for only 2 minutes, which makes it much more difficult for third parties to intercept and use it. Even if a BLIK code is intercepted, it cannot be used again, which limits potential losses.

Confirming transactions in the banking application

Each BLIK transaction must be confirmed by the user in the bank's mobile application. Thanks to this, even if the BLIK code is captured, the payment will not be made without additional authorization from the account owner. The transaction confirmation process in the banking application is secured by additional mechanisms, such as logging in using a fingerprint or face scan (depending on the capabilities of the smartphone). This ensures that only authorized users can approve a BLIK payment.

User data protection

The BLIK system does not store sensitive user data, such as payment card numbers or bank account passwords. All information is processed securely, in accordance with the highest security standards. BLIK uses advanced data encryption methods that protect information against interception and use by unauthorized persons. Additionally, the system is regularly inspected and tested for potential security gaps, which allows for quick detection and elimination of possible threats.

BLIK payments are a convenient, fast and safe way to make transactions using a smartphone. The growing number of banks and points accepting BLIK payments makes this system more and more accessible and universal. Thanks to advanced security mechanisms, users can use BLIK without worrying about their data and financial resources.
